Apologies for the lazy title but the past 24 hours have exhausted me.
Needless to say the virulent negativity surrounding Le Web 3 won't go away.
The French media are reporting on les blogeurs revolte meanwhile Techcrunch UK's Sam Sethi has quit after a disagreement with Michael Arrington [Techcrunch was an event sponsor].
It seems Loic was also unhappy with Sam (and called him an "asshole") after Sam aired his own views on Day 1 at Techcrunch UK rather than through his personal blog.
Personally, I would like to think Loic is not that manipulative or self-seeking but the conspiracy theories wont go away:
- Day 2's first three sessions were rolled into one to make room for Shimon Peres. "Luckily" each of the sessions were about TV being killed off by social media: Is TV being killed by web content; Is TV being killed by web distribution etc. *YAWN* but it's "lucky" they could all be rolled together into one nice session to save time.
- It's also "lucky" France's second most powerful politician could re-arrange his schedule to attend... if only for 30 minutes.
I'm sorry but I've been at UK conferences where significantly less senior politicians who were due to speak cancel because their schedule becomes too busy.
But despite all the entirely justifed criticisms of the event, I'm ever the optimist and actually enjoyed hearing what Simon Peres and Sarkozy had to say.
The main reason for this was the lacklustre content of Day 1. Have a look at the presentation titles and imagine how little you could learn from them.
Having the chance to see two political heavy weights was a pleasent diversion from listening to a bunch of corporates discuss how the web was changing the traditional media landscape.
Tom Morris continues the full Le Web 3 fallout round-up...
It sounds like I missed out on lots of fun, shame about the negativity coming out. I've written about this on my post too, adding your link.
